Queen's Article - September 2004
Dear NARC & SP,
Has everyone been practicing for finals? It would be nice if the weather cooperated with us this year. Mud football was fun last year, but it sure put a damper on running the events.
This past month has been full of nice weather. The 23rd, 24th, and the 25th of July were very busy days for the Queens! We started off the weekend with a slumber party on Friday night that lasted until approximately 3 AM. I was lucky enough to sneak into another room around midnight; although I heard lots of giggling from the other room. The fun carried over into the next morning at our Car Wash. I would like to thank everyone that supported our fundraiser. The car wash ended around 2PM; then we all made a mad dash home so we could shower and get our horses ready for Alvarado’s playday at 6pm. However, the fun had to come to an end after Queens’ Drill Practice on Sunday.
Next, we, the National Association traveled to Bowie to get our TROPHY BACK! We were thrilled at winning the trophy especially after hearing the attendance from both associations was very close. Pepper did a great job of organizing and getting things ready for this fun competition. I would also like to say “Great job girls!” With a few National queens, District queens, and one queen mom we came together and performed our drill for the first time at the 50/50! Due to all the rain the week before one of our drill practices’ was on foot instead of horse back--That was a very funny sight!
On August 7th, the Executive Board (many from District One) attended our very own District Playday at Grand Prairie’s arena. We had a great turn out. Not only from our own district, but quite a few District 10 members came and whipped up on us! It was nice to ride and talk with the out of towners!
The very next weekend, Mr. President and I attended District Ten’s open playday. Talk about a great turnout! I’ve never seen so many trailers around the arena. It was a fun day; with alarm clock prizes and good food (the queens’ committee ran the concession!) It was a late playday though, I went to drill the next morning on four hours of sleep. It was a good thing my horse knew the drill because I was just sitting up there and holding on.
As you can see my summer has been very busy but lots of fun. I hope yours turned out as great as mine did!
See you down the busy road,
Shannon
