Dear NARC & SP,
I want to start off by saying the Team Playday was a BLAST! That was a fun playday; the air was filled with enthusiasm, excitement, and a little competition. Ha, let’s say LOTS of competition. I heard someone say “It feels like we’re at finals.” With all the rivalries going on I would like to say “Congratulations” to the 1st place team, Hidalgo! They did a great job of following our motto, “Horsemanship, Sportsmanship, Hand n’ Hand.” All in all this was a great playday and the drill teams from District Two did a splendid job of hosting.
On the 4th of July our Association participated in the Parade in Arlington. We had a good turn out from our members, it was funny to hear the comments as the horses and people were dressed, glittered, and glued in red, white and blue! Like last year, there were tons of spectators that were just as friendly as can be. When we attend next year, just one piece of advice---Arrive early! I had the joy of driving around by myself with my parents’ long horse trailer for forty-five minutes, I got to back down streets and go in circles until I finally found someone to let me in! After all the rushing to get ready though, I had a GREAT time!
The next weekend the Kuykendalls, Shorts, and of course the Races attended Cedar Hill’s Friday night playday. That club is definitely growing. The whole parking lot was full, and most of it was their club. Congratulations Cedar Hill! If you have a chance to say “hi” to all the new members!
On that Saturday, it was Association night at the Mesquite Rodeo. On behalf of the Queens’ Committee I would like to say “Thank you” to everyone who helped us in our fundraiser and attended. After we rode in the Grand Entry, two of our very own members rode in the rodeo-Congratulations Gage Roland and Levi McDonald.
During the next week I attend the Executive Board meeting where we picked out the awards for National Finals! We picked out some pretty nice buckles this year! Then the traveling began…..A group of us headed up to Bridgeport for the parade and rodeo. The Association got to bring home two trophies; 1st place Farthest Traveled and 2nd Place for Riding Club. I think we lost out to the Star Spangled Wranglers with all their sparkles. Congratulations guys! They even performed the drill and set pivots for the rodeo. That same night we were excited to see that Alyssa Pershall was crowned as the Bridgeport Rodeo Queen. She is pulling around her brand new two horse trailer now!
On Saturday Tip Top Riding Club hosted Pony Express. There were no injuries in the arena that I know of. Heather Manning had an accident while unloading the horses. She went to the hospital, got stitches, a little pain medicine and came back with giggles and a grin that was as wide as her face---Get well soon Heather!
Well, that about wraps up my report for this month. See ya’ll down the road!
Shannon
