Miss NARC & SP Article
June 2004

Dear NARC & SP,

“Rain, rain go away!!” Should we all be singing this familiar tune?  Hopefully all the rain has come and gone so we can squeeze in a few playdays before it gets too hot.

Once the rain let up Pepper and I attended District Six on May 8th.  They were kind enough to introduce us and let us ride first so we could attend other districts.  After a few hours at Tip Top’s arena we were off to District One where we only missed a few events.  District One is really growing this year and I heard there is a club or two about to join.  You never know, we might end up running until sun-up like the good ole’ days!

The very next weekend we traveled to Salt Creek arena for Wise County’s Buckle Series.  There was a great crowd there too!  I guess everyone was ready to playday after all the rain.  There were a few mishaps throughout the day with people falling off, nevertheless from what I hear everyone is okay.  On a positive note, my mom is breaking her personal best times lately and she really likes that arena.  Our family is getting ready for the Team Playday on June 26th---Is your team ready?

On Sunday, May 16th Mansfield hosted Pony Express.  It was definitely a relaxing day as the Silver Bullets were the only open team.  I think a few horses were confused about where the other horses were----they were trying to race the horses on their own team!  Our team got quite LUCKY with a few thrown handoffs.  We might need to practice before the other teams show up!

Kris Hamby had a great turn out for the Parade and Drill Playday.  It was a very windy day, I even heard the question, “Why do we pay money to go to a beach with the hot weather and sand in our face when we can come here and get it for free?”   All in all, the playday was a success with the silent auction, the cake raffle, and the fun!

That Sunday I hauled to Alvarado for the Queens’ Riding Clinic.  I want to give a big “THANKS” to Tina Nolen for running the clinic and teaching the girls the “ins and outs” of a riding competition.  She showed us the proper attire, a reining pattern, how to groom our horses, and the hardest part---how to properly get on and off your horse.  I wish we could have taken a picture of each girl during this part!  We had so much fun we decided to have a follow up clinic.  Watch for more information--especially you girls running for National Queen 2005!

P.S.  Don’t forget about the Queen’s Bingo on June 13th

(See the flyer a few pages back for more information!)
